Canon Lens Mounts

The easiest way to find out which lenses your camera will accept is to look at the lens mount index on the front of your EOS camera. Simply remove the lens from your camera by pressing the lens release button and twisting the lens anti-clockwise. Canon cameras have four mount types.

  • EOS R System

If you see a red line on the lens mount, your camera is an EOS APS-C R System or EOS Full-frame R System mirrorless.

  • EOS APS-C DSLR

If you see a red circle and a white square on the lens mount, your camera is an EOS APS-C DSLR.

  • EOS Full-Frame DSLR

If you see only a red circle on the lens mount, your camera is an EOS full-frame DSLR.

  • EOS M series

If you see a white circle on the lens mount, your camera is an EOS M series APS-C mirrorless.

  • Canon Lens Types

Depending on your camera, different lens types can be used with or without a lens mount adapter.

  • RF and RF-S

Created for EOS R System cameras.

  • EF, TS-E, MP-E

Compatible with every EOS camera ever produced, including the new EOS R System and EOS M series when used with the appropriate lens adapter.

  • EF-S

Designed for EOS APS-C DSLR cameras. Compatible with EOS R System and EOS M series cameras when used with the appropriate lens adapter.

  • EF-M
